
Two civilians were killed when the military council conducted an airstrike on Chaung Gyi village in Sadaung Gyi Township, Mandalay Region, on the eve of Thingyan Water Festival, according to a spokesperson from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force. The airstrike occurred at approximately 10:14 PM on April 13, when two military fighter jets dropped four bombs on different locations within Chaung Gyi village. The attack resulted in the death of one male and one female civilian, while eight others sustained injuries. Additionally, fourteen residential buildings and two private vehicles were destroyed in the bombing.
A representative from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force provided details about the attack, estimating that the bombs used weighed between 200 and 300 pounds each. The military jets specifically targeted four different locations within Chaung Gyi village during the operation. The aerial bombardment of this civilian residential area has caused extensive damage to numerous households, forcing residents to flee in terror and seek shelter elsewhere, according to local sources. The attack represents another instance of the military council’s continued use of airstrikes against civilian populations, resulting in casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure.
