In Hinthada Township, Administrator Thant Naing was killed by sword attack while attempting to recruit for military service, while in Kyonpyaw Township, Administrator Hla Kyaing was shot dead. These incidents highlight the ongoing tension between local communities and military council-appointed officials carrying out forced recruitment policies.
On April 11, Administrator Thant Naing of Thanwan Thanot Village Tract in Hinthada Township went to Magyikone Village to recruit a young man for military service, claiming it was his turn to serve. When the administrator arrived at the house to take the young man, the house owner attacked him with a sword, resulting in fatal head injuries. Local sources confirmed that Administrator Thant Naing had been actively involved in recruiting soldiers for the military council in the area.
In a separate incident, Administrator Hla Kyaing of Ngagyithu Village Tract in Kyonpyaw Township was attacked while returning from a township meeting around 2 PM on April 10. Unknown armed individuals ambushed and shot him, with five bullet wounds proving fatal. According to local residents, Administrator Hla Kyaing was known as a key supporter of the military council, engaging in forced money collection and troop recruitment activities in the area. His actions as an informant had reportedly forced many local youths to flee their homes to avoid persecution. These incidents reflect the widespread resistance to the military council’s forced recruitment practices and the increasing risks faced by those implementing such policies at the local level.
