Two female internally displaced persons (IDPs) were killed when the military council conducted an airstrike on Shawtphyukone Village in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region, on April 11. According to local sources, the attack occurred around 3:30 PM when military aircraft targeted the village. One of the victims, Daw Win Kyi, age 56, who had fled from downtown Kawlin, was killed instantly in the airstrike. Another woman, aged 40, succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital.
The military council deliberately targeted Shawtphyukone Village with aircraft, causing destruction to several houses in the village. Local residents were forced to flee to safety as the bombing continued. Sources report that these intentional airstrikes on civilian areas continue to result in innocent civilian casualties, destruction of homes and property, and force people to flee in fear. The ongoing attacks have created a situation where local residents must constantly evacuate to avoid becoming victims of the military’s indiscriminate violence against civilian populations.
