A military checkpoint in southern Natmauk city, Magway Region, was attacked by People’s Defense Forces, resulting in at least 5 soldier casualties, according to a spokesperson from the People’s Defense Organization – Natmauk. The attack occurred at approximately 3:15 AM on April 10, with exchange of fire lasting about 15 minutes, during which 8 additional soldiers were reported injured.
The resistance forces approached the checkpoint from a distance of 50 meters and launched their attack using mortar fire, which immediately killed two soldiers. This checkpoint, operating under the military council’s control since the coup, had been notorious for extorting money from travelers and forcing civilians into porter service.
The operation was carried out through coordination between the Natmauk Township People’s Defense Force and allied resistance groups. The checkpoint was manned by approximately ten soldiers at the time of the attack. The brief duration of the engagement was necessitated by the checkpoint’s proximity to military reinforcements, which could arrive within 10 minutes from nearby military bases.
A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force explained that this attack served as a demonstration of the military council’s weakening control over Natmauk and other regions, indicating their gradual loss of territorial control across different areas. The People’s Defense Organization – Natmauk has announced their commitment to continue working alongside the local population towards the complete liberation of Natmauk city from military control.
