According to a statement from the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense, revolutionary forces have successfully captured Indaw city in Sagaing Region, while military council troops led by their commander retreated from their position at the Japanese Cave. The capture came after an eight-month-long offensive operation planned by the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense’s Military Region 1, culminating in success on the evening of April 7.
Indaw city served as the forward headquarters of the military council’s 77th Division, personally commanded by its division commander. During this prolonged battle for Indaw, the military council forces were unable to receive reinforcements or ground supply lines for weapons and ammunition. Facing mounting casualties and increasing pressure from revolutionary forces, they could no longer maintain their defensive positions. The remaining troops, led by their commander, abandoned their final stronghold at the Japanese Cave around 9 PM on April 7.
The Indaw offensive operation was conducted under the command of the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense’s Military Region 1, with the participation of multiple revolutionary forces including the People’s Defense Force (PDF), Katha District Battalions, Special Operation Forces, local People’s Defense Teams, All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), Kachin Independence Army (KIA), and other resistance groups. The operation resulted in the capture of significant military equipment, including two howitzers, two 120mm artillery pieces, and numerous other heavy and light weapons along with military supplies.
