A memorial service for soldiers who fell during military operations in Lashio was held at the Yan Lon Kyaing Heroes’ Monument in northern Shan State’s Lashio city on April 2. The ceremony was attended by Peng Daxun, the leader of the Kokang forces operating in northeastern Myanmar, who laid wreaths and paid respects to the fallen comrades.
Additionally, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) is providing compensation of 5 million kyats per household for homes damaged during Operation 1027 in Lashio, according to an announcement from the Lashio Rehabilitation Committee. The MNDAA’s Special Region 1 Lashio Area Military Administration Committee will distribute over 15.45 billion kyats (154,500,000,000 kyats) in total compensation for 309 houses that were destroyed during the conflict period.
Although there was extensive damage to residential properties, MNDAA officials stated that compensation would be provided only for completely destroyed homes. Original homeowners will receive 5 million kyats per household, and those who are included in the compensation list but currently displaced to other areas can claim their compensation at respective administrative offices with the endorsement of administrators and area officials. While the current compensation amount of 5 million kyats may not be substantial, MNDAA officials added that they believe it should be temporarily sufficient for each household’s immediate needs.
