The military council conducted an aerial attack on Thonepanhlwa village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, at 11:28 PM on April 6, dropping two incendiary bombs from a military aircraft. The bombing directly hit a house, resulting in the deaths of three civilians who were sleeping inside – two women in their 50s and a man in his 60s. Additionally, two other civilians, a man and a woman, were injured in the attack, according to local residents.
Local sources reported that the military aircraft flew from the Northwestern Command headquarters in Monywa, following the Chindwin River before launching the attack on Thonepanhlwa village. The deceased were identified as two unmarried women, one in her 50s and another around 60 years old, and an unmarried man over 60 years of age, all of whom died in the fire while sleeping. One of the victims’ bodies was so severely burned that no remains could be found. Among the injured, the woman suffered severe injuries with her thigh nearly severed, while the man sustained minor injuries to his foot sole.
Despite the military council’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22 as a gesture of mourning for earthquake victims, they carried out this aerial attack on a civilian village where no fighting was taking place. Revolutionary forces have urged residents in the central region to dig sturdy bomb shelters for protection against military air strikes, avoid large gatherings, and follow air raid warnings. This incident demonstrates the military council’s continued attacks on civilians despite their declared ceasefire.
