At the entrance to Mudon city in Mon State, the military junta and Naing Pleik village administrator Aung Myint Than are forcibly collecting money from civilians and arresting young people for forced military service. On April 5th, at the Mudon city toll gate, the military forces and a militia group led by village administrator Aung Myint Than arbitrarily stopped and detained passenger vehicles and motorcycles. During these checks, they extorted 100,000 kyats per motorcycle and forcibly demanded 10,000 kyats from each passenger on public transport vehicles, according to local residents.
Aung Myint Than, the military-appointed administrator of Naing Pleik village, is known for arresting young people from both the village and urban areas on various pretexts, including false drug charges, and selling them as military service replacements. Additionally, he has been conducting raids on factories, workshops, guest houses, and karaoke establishments under various pretexts, during which he sexually harasses young women. According to local residents, the military and administrator maintain daily checkpoints at the entrance to Mudon, where they continuously extort money from civilians and forcibly recruit young people for military service. The systematic nature of these operations has created an atmosphere of fear and oppression in the area, with civilians being subjected to regular harassment and financial exploitation by the military authorities and their appointed administrators.
