The Southern Military Region-2 Sub-Command has confirmed that five military council soldiers were killed and three others were injured when People’s Defense Force (PDF) units attacked a civilian vehicle and train car carrying military council troops on the old Yangon-Mandalay highway in Tatkone Township, Bago Region. Around 6:00 AM on March 27, 2024, units from the PDF Operations Area (2), Division Military Command (Bago) under Strategy (23), (3502) Sittaung Column were conducting security operations in the area when they encountered a white civilian vehicle carrying 6 personnel from the Nyaung Chaik Htauk police station and a train car.
After discovering that approximately 10 military council soldiers were aboard the train car, revolutionary forces launched an attack at 7:45 AM. Although military council troops returned fire during the engagement, the PDF forces’ effective attack resulted in the immediate deaths of 5 military council soldiers and serious injuries to 3 others. After the battle, the PDF forces were able to successfully withdraw without any casualties, according to a statement from the Division Military Command (Bago). The attack was carried out in response to ongoing oppression and violence by military council forces against local civilians.
Currently, security has been tightened along the old Yangon-Mandalay highway, with People’s Defense Forces closely monitoring military council troop movements in the area. The incident demonstrates the continued resistance against the military council’s use of force against civilians in the region. The PDF forces maintain their commitment to protecting local communities while conducting strategic operations against military council targets.
