
The Central Committee of the Karen National Union (KNU) has reported that unprovoked attacks by the military council forces on villages in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region, have resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to two children from a landmine explosion. The attacks have caused significant damage to residential areas and spread fear among local residents.
On March 13, around 12:10 PM, Infantry Battalion 350 of the military council, stationed near Sint Village Gate in Shwegyin Township, fired two 81mm artillery shells that landed and exploded in Anyasu Village, killing 45-year-old Daw Ma Ma Aye. Later, on March 19, around 11:40 PM, soldiers from Infantry Battalion 264 in Letpadan Township conducted drone strikes on Kanyin Kyun Village, resulting in damage to two houses.
On March 24, around 11:00 AM, two children from Ohn Shit Khin Village in Moe Township were injured after stepping on landmines planted by military council troops. The victims, 14-year-old Maung Chit Min Ko and 9-year-old Maung Ko Ko Lin, were playing outside their village when they encountered the mines. The military council has been frequently engaging in activities such as planting landmines, artillery shelling, and conducting drone strikes in civilian-populated areas.
Additionally, in Shan State’s Nyaungshwe Township, the military council forces and their affiliated PNA militia conducted unprovoked drone strikes using 120mm bombs on Quarter 3 of Phaya Taung Village in the southern part of Inle area. According to the Inle Region Human Rights Group, these attacks resulted in the destruction of one house. The military council’s continued unprovoked attacks have caused significant loss of life and property, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among local residents.
