The terrorist military forces conducting operations in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, have arrested over 50 civilians who were fleeing from conflict near Moegwe village, according to local sources. On March 21 at around 6:30 AM, military council troops from Ngathayaw village advanced towards Moephyu and Moegwe villages, forcing many local residents to flee for safety.
As civilians were fleeing, the military forces pursued and opened fire on them, eventually surrounding and capturing more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who were taking shelter on an island west of Moegwe village. The arrested civilians were taken into Moegwe village by the military council troops. It has not yet been confirmed whether there were any casualties or deaths resulting from the military’s shooting during this incident.
The military column responsible for these arrests is the same one that previously killed 17 civilians, including elderly people aged between 35 and 91 years, from Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Thagaung Lay village, and Thagaung village proper. Among those killed were U Ohn (91 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), and younger victims including Ko Thant Zin (35 years old), Ko Aung Linn Naing (40 years old), and U Than Min Hlaing (42 years old). The military’s actions continue to demonstrate their brutal treatment of civilians, particularly targeting vulnerable populations including the elderly and those fleeing from conflict.
