According to sources from Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise, the military council has ordered a five-fold increase in ammonium nitrate production from fertilizer factories across the country to manufacture high-explosive weapons and bombs for their offensive operations against revolutionary forces nationwide. The military council has mandated increased production of ammonium nitrate, which is a crucial chemical compound used in the manufacture of drone bombs, aircraft bombs, cluster bombs, and artillery shells.
Ammonium nitrate is a key chemical component in the production of explosives and can only be primarily manufactured in fertilizer plants. The military council has ordered all fertilizer factories across the country to increase their ammonium nitrate production and directly supply the manufactured ammonium nitrate to military weapons production facilities. Sources from the Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise confirm that this dramatic increase in production is directly linked to the military’s expanded manufacturing of bombs and heavy artillery shells.
The military council has also reactivated Fertilizer Plant No. 3 (Kyawswa), which had been suspended since 2010 due to natural gas shortages. Since August 2023, this plant has been producing ammonium nitrate raw materials for the manufacture of bombs and high-explosive artillery shells. Additionally, Fertilizer Plant No. 1 in Sale, Fertilizer Plant No. 2 in Kyunchaung, Fertilizer Plant No. 4 in Myaungdaga, and Fertilizer Plant No. 5 in Kangyidaunt are all operating at full capacity to increase ammonium nitrate production as per the military council’s orders.
