
Local residents from Letpan village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, have been forced to flee after the military council’s artillery shells struck a monastery in their village. The incident occurred following clashes between resistance forces and the military council troops along the Sagaing-Mingun road between 9 PM and 11 PM on March 17. After the fighting, the military council indiscriminately fired heavy weapons at civilian areas, with one artillery shell hitting and damaging the monastery in Letpan village, causing the entire village population to evacuate to safer locations.
According to local sources, the military council suffered casualties during the fighting, and their forces were seen transporting bodies away in vehicles covered with tarpaulins. The extent of civilian casualties from the artillery strike remains unconfirmed. Additionally, the military council has conducted aerial attacks on villages in Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, as reported by the Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee. The military council used helicopters to drop bombs on villages and fired small arms in the area.
Around 2:48 AM on March 19, the military council conducted aerial bombardments targeting Kyipintet village and Nagabo village, accompanied by small arms fire. The Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee is currently investigating the extent of civilian casualties and property damage resulting from these aerial attacks. The military council has also been burning down civilian homes in the central regions, continuing their pattern of destruction against civilian infrastructure. These attacks have led to widespread displacement and humanitarian concerns in the affected areas, with local communities struggling to find safe shelter away from the military council’s operations.
