On March 18, the military council conducted an aerial attack on a monastery in Magyi Pin Tae village, Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region. According to a representative from the Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee, two military helicopters from the Meiktila Air Base targeted the monastery and surrounding areas with eight bombs during the early morning hours. The attack resulted in significant damage to the monastery compound and its structures.
The aerial assault caused substantial destruction to the monastery buildings and facilities, while also destroying one civilian house in the vicinity. Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported during this attack. The military council has been deliberately targeting religious buildings and civilian homes as part of their ongoing campaign of violence against the local population. The systematic nature of these attacks demonstrates a clear pattern of intentional targeting of civilian infrastructure and religious sites.
The Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee has issued warnings to local residents, advising them to immediately seek shelter in bomb bunkers upon hearing aircraft or helicopter sounds, as the military council continues to conduct daily aerial attacks in the region. These brutal airstrikes have repeatedly resulted in the loss of civilian lives, property, and livelihoods, making it essential for residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions for their safety. The committee emphasizes the importance of maintaining heightened awareness due to the military council’s persistent aerial bombardment campaign targeting civilian areas.
