The protesters in the Letpadaung region demonstrated their opposition to the military council’s violations of labor rights, forced labor practices, and deprivation of workplace rights.
Article 33 of the International Labour Organization enables member states to implement economic sanctions against countries that violate workers’ rights. Through this movement, the Letpadaung region’s anti-dictatorship protest groups are encouraging the international community to take effective action against the military council. The military council has been systematically violating workers’ basic rights, implementing forced labor practices, compelling military service, and depriving workers of their workplace rights.
