In Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, resistance forces conducted two separate mine attacks on military council convoys on March 16, resulting in the death of five military council soldiers, according to a representative from the Bagan Bogyoke Cho group. The first attack targeted a military convoy consisting of two armored vehicles and two military trucks traveling from Bagan-Nyaung-U toward Chauk. The resistance forces successfully carried out the mine attack along the Bagan-Nyaung-U-Chauk road section.
During the initial attack, one military council soldier was killed and four others were injured. The resistance forces were able to safely withdraw from the area without suffering any casualties. Later that evening, when military council forces sent out vehicles for patrol operations in the same area, resistance forces launched a second mine attack. This subsequent attack resulted in the death of four more military council soldiers, according to reports from local sources.
A spokesperson from the Bagan Bogyoke Cho group confirmed that resistance forces suffered no casualties in either of the two attacks along the Bagan-Nyaung-U-Chauk road section. The spokesperson detailed how the attacks were successfully executed against the military council convoys. These operations were reportedly carried out in response to the military council’s ongoing violence against local civilians in the region. The attacks demonstrate the continued resistance against military council forces who have been accused of numerous human rights violations and oppression of civilians in the area.
