The National Unity Government (NUG) has officially notified the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the investment and business agreements signed during military council leader Min Aung Hlaing’s recent visit to Russia are invalid, according to NUG Presidential Office spokesperson U Kyaw Zaw. This announcement was made during today’s press briefing to the public and international community regarding the current situation in Myanmar.
U Kyaw Zaw explained that Min Aung Hlaing’s trip to Russia was primarily aimed at securing support for maintaining military power, purchasing weapons, seeking illegal funding sources, and exploiting Myanmar’s labor force. He further revealed that the visit was also intended to artificially boost the morale of the losing military forces and to seek political legitimacy through fraudulent elections. The NUG spokesperson emphasized that all agreements signed by the military council during this visit lack legal standing and will not be recognized by the legitimate government of Myanmar.
The National Unity Government has made it clear that it will only honor and take responsibility for international agreements and treaties that were signed before the military coup. The NUG has issued orders to immediately suspend all investment activities approved by the military council’s Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) and has declared that all permits and approvals issued by the commission are invalid. Furthermore, the government has emphasized that all investment permissions granted after February 1, 2021, when the military illegally seized power, have been officially nullified. The NUG has also warned international investors and businesses against entering into any new agreements with the military council, stating that such arrangements will not be recognized or protected under future legitimate governance.
