
A meeting between Kim Aris, the younger son of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and Myanmar families in New York City, United States, has successfully raised over fifty-two thousand US dollars in funds. The gathering was held as part of the Suu 80th Birthday Campaign on March 15, bringing together Myanmar communities from New York and surrounding areas. The event marked a significant moment of solidarity and support for humanitarian causes in Myanmar.
The meeting was attended by several notable figures alongside Kim Aris, including Myanmar’s Ambassador to the United Nations U Kyaw Moe Tun, Minister for Women, Youth and Children Affairs Naw Susan Hla Hla Soe, and Aung San Suu Kyi’s economic advisor Sean Turnell. The event drew nearly a thousand participants, including local Myanmar families from New York, those from neighboring cities, and Spring Revolution support groups, demonstrating the strong unity of the Myanmar community in the United States.
During the event, several special auction items garnered significant support from attendees. A portrait of Kim Aris was successfully auctioned for US$8,888, while a special Suu 80th Birthday Calendar was sold for US$5,500. Additional fundraising activities included the sale of commemorative postcards and other contributions from attendees. The total funds raised, exceeding US$52,000, will be allocated to humanitarian assistance efforts, supporting those in need within Myanmar. The successful fundraising event highlighted the continued commitment of the Myanmar diaspora to supporting humanitarian causes in their homeland.
