
The Bangladesh government has officially announced that it maintains positive relations with the Arakan Army (AA), particularly regarding border affairs and military matters. This statement was made by Shafiqul Alam, Chief Advisor to the Bangladesh government, during a media briefing regarding UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ visit. He emphasized that they maintain good relations with the AA along the border region and continue to preserve communication channels for military-related matters.
Shafiqul Alam further stated that they continuously monitor the situation in Rakhine State while maintaining border security, regional stability, and peace. The Bangladesh government has acknowledged the necessity of engaging in dialogue with the Arakan Army while consistently working towards ensuring the dignified return of Rohingya refugees to their homeland. The government maintains that such engagement is crucial for regional stability and the eventual resolution of the refugee crisis.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is visiting Bangladesh to address development initiatives and humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees who fled from Myanmar military violence and are currently residing in Cox’s Bazar district. Guterres met with Bangladesh’s interim government leader Yunnus and visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. During these meetings, he expressed his commitment to appeal to the international community for increased humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya refugees. The visit underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the need for sustained international support for both the refugees and the host country Bangladesh.
