According to a statement from an official of the Salin Township People’s Administration Group, the military council’s brutal operation in Salin Township, Magway Region, has resulted in the death of a mentally ill woman in her 50s who was burned alive, the destruction of over 400 homes by fire, and the displacement of more than 10,000 local residents who have been forced to flee as war refugees.
The military column, which departed from Minbu on March 7, began conducting operations in villages near Singu Island in Salin Township. On March 12, when they entered Napyukan village, they burned to death a mentally ill woman in her 50s who could not be evacuated to safety, and proceeded to burn down nearly the entire village. Local sources reported that the military systematically destroyed civilian homes throughout the village.
On March 13, the military forces launched an artillery attack on Kukkotaw village, resulting in the destruction of numerous houses by fire. As a result of this military offensive, more than 400 houses in both Napyukan and Kukkotaw villages have been destroyed, and over 16,000 residents from 24 villages have been forced to flee for their lives. The displaced civilians were only able to take what they could carry when they fled, and according to those providing assistance to the refugees, there is now an urgent need for emergency food supplies, medicine, and clothing among the displaced population.
