The Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) has reported that revolutionary forces successfully repelled a major offensive by military council troops in the Mobye region, located on the border of Shan State and Karenni State. On March 13, the military council launched an intensive attack using drones and heavy artillery, forcing resistance forces to temporarily withdraw from some forward positions. However, the revolutionary forces mounted a successful counteroffensive on March 14, resulting in at least 15 military council soldiers being killed and many others wounded, ultimately forcing the military council troops to retreat.
During the battle, resistance forces captured nine weapons and related military equipment from the military council troops. The military council forces employed chemical gas bombs and incendiary weapons in their attacks, resulting in the destruction of at least 15 civilian homes in Mobye town by fire. A spokesperson from the Urban Revolutionary Front detailed the battle, explaining that on March 13, the military council launched their offensive with massive force, using drones and poison gas bombs. The fighting continued throughout March 14, with resistance forces successfully reclaiming all previously abandoned positions by evening.
The resistance forces suffered one casualty during the battle, with a KNDF/B-03 soldier making the ultimate sacrifice. The military council’s use of chemical weapons and incendiary bombs has caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, with reports indicating that more than 15 houses in Mobye’s residential areas have been destroyed by fire during March alone. Since December 2024, the military council has been conducting repeated offensives to gain control of Mobye, employing superior numbers of troops, weapons, and drones.
The resistance against these offensives has been led by a coalition of revolutionary forces, including the Southern Shan State Military Region-1 Strategic Command, the Karenni National Defense Force, and other allied groups. The ongoing attacks by military council forces on civilian targets have resulted in widespread displacement of local residents, creating an urgent need for humanitarian assistance. The resistance forces continue to defend the area against the military council’s aggressive campaigns, which have been characterized by the use of excessive force and weapons that indiscriminately affect civilian populations.
