The National Unity Government (NUG) Defense Minister U Ye Mon has announced plans to launch a nationwide general offensive with tens of thousands of troops to end the military dictatorship. This announcement was made in a message sent to the graduation ceremony of the Commander Training Course (1/2024) held on March 8. The minister revealed that the People’s Defense Forces and allied revolutionary groups have gained experience in urban warfare operations and are now ready to launch major offensives across multiple fronts.
During the first phase of the revolution, efforts were focused on building forces and conducting military operations on a national scale. In the second phase, forces were consolidated to carry out strategic offensives including capturing towns and military camps. Now, in the third phase, the PDF, local defense forces, and all allied revolutionary groups will join forces to launch a nationwide general offensive. U Ye Mon explained that this coordinated offensive is expected to bring an end to the military dictatorship.
The Defense Minister emphasized that PDF/local defense force members are constantly prioritizing military discipline and combat effectiveness. He stated that in establishing the armed forces, all armed groups are being united under a single flag to wage a people’s revolution aimed at transitioning to democracy. The current forces will serve as the foundation for the future Federal Union Armed Forces, which will be aligned with the federal democratic political system. The minister also highlighted that the People’s Defense Forces, now approaching their fourth year of existence, have produced capable commanders who will lead the various revolutionary tasks ahead. He stressed the crucial role of commanders in building an effective military force, noting that good commanders are essential for creating good military units.
