Local sources report that following the deaths of approximately 20 military-affiliated personnel, including village and ward administrators, Pyu Saw Htee members, and informants in townships within Bago Region’s Thayarwaddy District, the military has begun arming Pyu Saw Htee members and appointing them as security forces. Since January 2025, resistance forces have been continuously attacking military-appointed administrators and military pillars who have been oppressing civilians through various means, including forced portering and arrests of young people from villages in the Thayarwaddy District, leading to increased casualties.
Due to these attacks, village administrators and military pillars have fled from villages, resigned from their positions, or attempted to administer from military-controlled areas remotely. As administrative mechanisms have ceased to function effectively, the military has responded by arming Pyu Saw Htee members and appointing them as security forces. Currently, the General Administration Departments at the township level are collecting population data to organize armed Pyu Saw Htee security forces, with plans to provide firearms training and military training to administrators as well.
Between January and March, resistance forces attacked and killed numerous military collaborators, including Administrator Than Oo, Administrator Thein Win and his wife San San from Letpadan Township; Quarter Leader Ngay Lay, informant Htun Naing, Pyu Saw Htee member Kyaw Maung Win, Administrator Than Htwe, Pyu Saw Htee member Shan Lay, informant U Shwe from Minhla Township; informant Aye Lwin, Administrator Myint Oo, Pyu Saw Htee member Tin Naing Htun, informant Nyo Nyo Win, Pyu Saw Htee member Myint Lwin, Administrator Kan Myint and his wife Khin Win, informant Kan Win, informant Than Swe Oo, and a military informant disguised as a monk sent by Division 66 from Oaktwin Township. Most of these individuals were killed in the attacks.
