The terrorist military council forces have been burning down Pan Nyo village in Myaung Township, Sagaing Region, since the evening of March 12, according to Ko Nwe Oo, leader of the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group. The military forces entered the village around 4 PM and began systematically burning civilian homes. The destruction has continued into the night, with numerous houses already destroyed by fire and smoke columns visible rising from the village area.
The military council deployed combined forces including army, navy, and air force units in a three-day operation in the area, causing significant civilian casualties and destruction. The extensive burning operation appears to be retaliation for military losses, with Ko Nwe Oo noting that the military’s use of all three service branches for three days indicates their frustration with resistance in the area. The military council forces have also arrested and killed 11 elderly residents from Myay Sone Taw village and Malaka Chan village in the same area.
Local revolutionary forces have warned civilians not to enter Thakhaung village in Yesagyo Township due to possible remaining military forces in the area. The military council’s brutal actions have caused widespread fear among local residents who continue to lose their homes and property to the systematic destruction. The ongoing burning of Pan Nyo village represents another instance of the military council’s campaign of collective punishment against civilian populations in resistance strongholds, demonstrating their continued use of terror tactics against their own people.
