A military council vessel carrying cash boxes from Dawei to Myeik in Tanintharyi Region was attacked by revolutionary forces, resulting in at least 20 military casualties and the boat being hit by RPG fire and burned, according to confirmation from the Longlone Township People’s Defense Force. The incident occurred around 11 PM on March 10th when the boat was traveling downstream from Dawei city toward Thayet Chaung Township’s Sinphyupin port.
According to reports, the vessel was carrying cash boxes intended for transfer to Myeik, accompanied by a bank manager and two staff members from Myanmar Economic Bank, along with approximately 60-70 military council troops. The Dawei District revolutionary alliance forces intercepted the vessel in the Dawei River, engaging in a firefight that lasted about 10 minutes. The military council forces on the boat were only able to return limited fire during the engagement, according to statements from the alliance forces. The boat was struck by RPG fire from the revolutionary forces, causing it to catch fire and sustain significant damage. The attack resulted in over 20 military council troops being killed and approximately 30 others wounded.
Following the successful operation, the revolutionary forces were able to withdraw without sustaining any casualties. The damaged vessel was later found stopped between Dawei and Kyauknimaw, where military council forces subsequently arrived to retrieve the bodies of the deceased soldiers. Local sources confirmed that the boat was carrying multiple cash boxes as part of a bank-to-bank transfer operation, with security provided by military council forces. The incident represents a significant blow to the military council’s attempts to maintain control over financial operations in the region, demonstrating the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting coordinated attacks against military targets.
