The Shwe Yay Kyun People’s Strike Column led a protest march in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region on March 11, demanding action against the violent military under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The protesters carried banners with the message ‘ILO Implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025′ and called for international action against the military’s violations of workers’ rights.
The demonstrators peacefully marched while holding signs demanding the implementation of ILO Article 33 on Myanmar. They highlighted how the military coup has severely violated the labor rights of Myanmar’s people, particularly through forced labor, suppression of labor unions, unfair wages, and workplace rights violations. The protest emphasized the military’s ongoing oppression of workers and called for meaningful international intervention to address these violations.
Participants in the protest urged the international community to pay greater attention to and take effective action against the military’s labor rights violations. They pointed out that ILO Article 33 is a crucial regulation for taking action against member states that violate workers’ rights, and argued that it should be applied to Myanmar. The demonstration concluded peacefully and received support from local residents. The protesters emphasized that the military council’s actions continue to severely impact workers’ rights and livelihoods across the country, making international intervention through mechanisms like ILO Article 33 increasingly necessary.
