
A township police officer involved in forced military recruitment in Ye Township, Mon State, was killed when resistance forces attacked him while he was drinking beer. The incident occurred around 7 PM on March 9, when members of the Ye Bilu group attacked Police Officer Myo Thu in Aung Thuka Ward, resulting in his immediate death. The attack took place while he was drinking beer at a location within the ward.
According to the leader of the Ye Bilu group, Police Officer Myo Thu was a key figure in forcing local youth into military service as porters and conducting arbitrary arrests in Ye Township. He was known for oppressing local civilians through various means. As a senior police officer with significant authority, he personally handled shooting incidents in the area. The resistance group stated that he was targeted due to his role in enforcing military service laws and his brutal treatment of civilians. He was responsible for the arrest of numerous young people who were subsequently forced into military service.
In a separate incident on March 9 at approximately 3 PM, a General Administration Department staff member and his wife were killed near a farm field east of Tawpya village in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region. The victims were identified as Than Hlaing, age 49, and his wife Khin Ma Ma, age 45, residents of Tawpya village in Nga Tharauk town. Than Hlaing suffered fatal slash wounds to his neck and stab wounds to both sides of his chest. His wife Khin Ma Ma sustained two slash wounds to her neck, two stab wounds to her left chest, two stab wounds to her right chest, and injuries resulting in intestinal exposure. Both victims died from their injuries at the scene.
