Revolutionary groups in Yangon have conducted a campaign posting warrant photos of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin throughout the city. The activity was led by four allied Yangon revolutionary organizations – the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization, Mayangone Democratic Front, Kyimyindaing Networks, and Owl Community, who coordinated their efforts to spread the message across various parts of the city.
This initiative was intended to demonstrate the parallel struggles for democracy being waged by both Myanmar and Ukrainian people against authoritarian regimes. The campaign highlighted how Min Aung Hlaing has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Myanmar people, while Putin has similarly perpetrated such crimes against the Ukrainian people. The activists emphasized the common cause between the two peoples’ fights for justice and democracy.
The posters, which were displayed on main roads and within residential areas across various townships in Yangon, featured images of both Putin and Min Aung Hlaing, who are subject to arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court. The materials included calls for justice and accountability for their actions. The campaign materials also emphasized the solidarity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine in their respective struggles for democracy, highlighting how both populations are united in their pursuit of justice against authoritarian leaders who have committed serious international crimes against their own people and others.
