People’s Defense Forces have launched a grenade attack on the military council-controlled ward administration office in Ward 141 of Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. The attack occurred at 10:01 PM on March 8 and was jointly carried out by the Yangon Army (YA) and Western District People’s Defense Force. According to a spokesperson from the Yangon Army, the attack was conducted in response to ongoing oppression and abuse of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates.
Under the military council’s administrative structure, ward administrators have been actively participating in threatening and extorting civilians, acting as informants, and conducting arbitrary arrests and detentions. As a result, People’s Defense Forces have designated these administrative offices as military targets. The spokesperson indicated that the ward administrator and his associates were likely casualties in the attack, and stated that such military targets would continue to be attacked until the military dictatorship is overthrown. The operation was confirmed to be a coordinated effort between the Yangon Army (YA) and the Western District People’s Defense Force, demonstrating the ongoing resistance against the military council’s local administrative structures.
