In Nat Htamin village of Minhlah Township, Bago Region, village administrator Thant Naing Soe, who had been forcing young people into military service and arresting those who couldn’t pay military service fees, was killed in a shooting attack. The incident occurred around 11:45 AM on March 8, when joint forces from Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802’s Units 2 and 3, along with Minhlah Township People’s Defense Force, entered his residence and opened fire. He sustained three gunshot wounds to the head, resulting in immediate death.
The deceased administrator, also known as Ngaylae, had been forcibly collecting money from impoverished civilians under the pretext of military service fees. He was known for reporting to the military and arranging arrests of those who couldn’t pay, spreading false information about civilians to the military forces, and openly challenging revolutionary forces with defiance. His actions had forced many local residents to flee their homes, disrupting their livelihoods and causing severe economic hardship in the community. Many villagers were unable to work and faced difficulties meeting their basic needs due to his oppressive practices.
A spokesperson from the Thayarwaddy District PDF stated that the administrator was eliminated because he continued to oppress civilians while boasting about his fearlessness of PDF forces. The spokesperson also issued a warning to civilians to stay away from military personnel and their associates, as they plan to intensify their operations against the military council and its supporters. The PDF emphasized that this action was taken to protect civilians from further oppression and to maintain the momentum of their resistance against military rule in the region.
