The military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike using 500-pound bombs near Kwin Gyi village in Thee Chaing Township, Sagaing Region. The attack, which occurred at 5 PM on March 8, resulted in a buffalo being struck by a bomb blast, thrown into the air, and found dead hanging in a tree. According to local residents, while the bombs landed outside the village area, preventing human casualties, the attack caused significant damage to the surrounding area.
During the military council’s air raid, one bomb struck near a road junction by a coconut tree at the entrance of Kwin Gyi village, destroying a fuel shop and killing three buffaloes. Another bomb landed in a paddy field near an agricultural center between Kwin Gyi village and Pauk Kone village. The bomb impacts created large craters in the affected areas. A local resident stated that they were fortunate the bombs did not fall directly within the village boundaries.
Kwin Gyi village, home to approximately 200 households, has seen most of its residents forced to flee their homes due to the military council’s airstrikes. The military council’s deliberate targeting of civilian areas without any active conflict has resulted in the destruction of lives and property, leaving residents living in fear. The airstrikes have also severely impacted agricultural and livestock farming activities in the region. The military council’s continued attacks on civilian areas demonstrate their disregard for civilian safety and have led to widespread displacement of local communities who must abandon their homes and livelihoods to seek safety elsewhere.
