
A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was ambushed while collecting extortion money, but managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township. The ambush was carried out by Battalion 5 of the People’s Defense Force Battalion 3601, as confirmed by the battalion’s intelligence and information officer.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into an embankment after spotting resistance forces from a distance. Although the PDF forces opened fire, he escaped without injury. However, the resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driving license, and other documents.
According to local sources, Police Corporal Thein Lwin had been involved in forced recruitment of civilians for military service, extorting money from wealthy individuals through arrests, and torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments within the jurisdiction of Myatdaing police station. The People’s Defense Force has urged members of the military council forces, police force, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent acts and defect to the people’s side as part of the revolution.
