The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thayagone camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and joint KNLA-PDF forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. The resistance forces completely burned down the captured camp after securing it, as confirmed by People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2 Commander Comrade Tin Oo. This victory represents the liberation of another area from military council control and has reduced security threats to local civilians in the region.
The Thayagone camp was a significant military council installation in Thandaunggyi Township and served as a key base for military operations in the area. The successful capture of this camp demonstrates the military capabilities and unified coordination of revolutionary forces in the region, and represents a gradual reduction in the military council’s control over the territory. The seizure of this strategic position marks another significant advancement in the resistance movement’s efforts to diminish the military council’s operational capacity in Karen State.
