On March 9, revolutionary groups in Yangon conducted a protest action displaying arrest warrant images of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with messages of solidarity with Ukraine. This action was intended to demonstrate unity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine, while also expressing opposition to authoritarian forces. The activists strategically placed posters throughout various locations in the city, combining visual elements that linked the struggles of both nations.
The campaign was jointly organized by four allied groups known as the Yangon 4 Brother (Y4B) coalition, comprising the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization (LYNYO), Mayangone Democratic Front (MDF), Kyimyindaing Networks (KMD18), and the Owl Community. These organizations coordinated their efforts to maximize the impact of their message across different areas of Yangon, placing posters that featured the arrest warrants and solidarity statements in prominent locations throughout the city.
This demonstration reflects the parallel struggles for democracy in both Myanmar and Ukraine, highlighting the solidarity between peoples facing threats from authoritarian forces. The participants sought to emphasize their opposition to military dictatorship and violence, while standing in support of those fighting for justice and freedom. The action symbolizes the shared aspirations of both nations’ peoples in their respective struggles against oppression, connecting their causes through visual protest and public messaging.
