A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was ambushed while collecting extortion money but managed to escape, while his belongings were seized by the People’s Defense Force (PDF). The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township, where members of the 3601 Battalion’s 5th Company of Pyay District People’s Defense Force conducted the ambush operation.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin spotted the PDF members from a distance, abandoned his motorcycle, and fled the scene. Although revolutionary forces pursued and fired at him, he managed to escape by jumping into a nearby embankment without sustaining fatal injuries. The PDF forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driving license, and other documents.
According to local sources, Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been involved in forced military recruitment of local civilians, extorting money from wealthy families through arrests, and torturing detainees, resulting in deaths and imprisonments. In response, the Intelligence and Information Officer of PDF Battalion 3601, known as Shadow, urged members of the military council forces, police forces, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
