A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages, where members of Battalion 5 of the 3601 People’s Defense Force (PDF) launched an ambush operation against Police Corporal Thein Lwin.
Upon spotting the resistance forces from a distance, Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and escaped by jumping into an irrigation canal. Although the revolutionary forces opened fire, he managed to escape unharmed. During the incident, the resistance forces seized several items from the fleeing police corporal, including one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle registration book, police ID card, driving license, and various other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been known for forcing local civilians into military service, extorting money from wealthy residents through arrests, and conducting torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The 3601 Battalion has urged members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
