A village administrator in Nat Htamin village, Minhlat Township, Bago Region, who had been forcing local youth to join the military when they couldn’t pay military service fees, was shot dead by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at approximately 11:45 AM when combined forces from Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802’s Units 2 and 3, along with the Minhlat Township People’s Defense Force, entered the home of administrator Thant Gyi (aka) Oak Naing Soe and opened fire. The administrator was struck by three bullets to the head, resulting in immediate death.
The deceased administrator had been forcibly collecting money from local residents under the pretext of military service fees. Those who could not afford to pay, particularly the impoverished residents, were forced into military service. He was also known for providing false information to the military, leading to civilian arrests. According to a spokesperson from the Thayarwaddy District PDF, the administrator was targeted because he had been challenging the revolutionary forces while continuing to oppress local civilians. His actions had forced many residents to flee their homes, disrupting their livelihoods and causing severe economic hardship in the community.
The Thayarwaddy District PDF has announced that they will continue to target the military council and its supporters who cause suffering to civilians and revolutionary forces. They have issued a warning to civilians to avoid proximity to military personnel and their associates for their safety. The incident highlights the ongoing tension between resistance forces and local administrators who collaborate with the military council in enforcing conscription and other oppressive policies against civilians in the region.
