The military council has blacklisted medical graduates who completed their studies in December 2020 from universities across Myanmar, denying them their medical degrees for refusing to serve under the military administration. Dr. Thet Khaing Win, the military council’s Minister of Health, acting under Min Aung Hlaing’s orders, has implemented travel restrictions affecting 1,022 doctors, preventing them from leaving the country.
These doctors are facing political persecution for their unwillingness to work under the military council after completing their education. The military council is deliberately implementing measures to suppress these medical professionals by withholding their medical degrees, refusing to issue medical registration certificates (Sa Ma), and imposing travel restrictions. These oppressive actions have severely impacted the future and professional careers of these aspiring doctors.
Due to the military council’s oppressive measures, these doctors are unable to utilize their skills and medical knowledge, facing numerous challenges in their professional lives. They are struggling under the military council’s political pressure, unable to fulfill their desire to provide healthcare services to the public. The military council’s actions represent a clear violation of doctors’ rights and their freedom to practice their profession. These restrictions have not only affected individual medical professionals but have also impacted the overall healthcare system and the ability to provide essential medical services to the population.
