Revolutionary forces conducted an attack on the military council’s Nyaung Khar Shay X-Ray checkpoint located on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Bago Region in the early morning hours of March 8. According to a spokesperson from the Waw Township People’s Defense Force (PDF), the joint operation was carried out by PDF units from both Waw and Kawa townships, utilizing three 107mm rockets in the assault. The attack took place around 3 AM, targeting the strategic checkpoint that has long been a significant obstacle for revolutionary movements in the area.
The Nyaung Khar Shay checkpoint, situated at the border between Bago Region and Mon State, has been identified as a crucial military installation that has consistently hindered revolutionary forces’ operations. A PDF official explained that the checkpoint has been particularly problematic for the movement of supplies and weapons, with numerous previous incidents of seizures occurring at this location. The spokesperson emphasized that this checkpoint remains a priority target for future operations, given its strategic importance in controlling movement along the highway. The revolutionary forces have indicated their intention to continue pressure on this military position as part of their broader strategic objectives.
Following the attack, the revolutionary forces were able to withdraw safely without casualties on their side. However, the extent of damage inflicted on the military council forces and their facilities could not be immediately verified. This operation demonstrates the increasing tactical capabilities of local resistance forces and their ability to conduct coordinated attacks on significant military installations. The successful execution of this operation, involving multiple PDF units working in concert, suggests a growing sophistication in resistance operations in the region. The attack represents another challenge to the military council’s control over key transportation routes and their ability to maintain security checkpoints in contested areas.
