On March 8, the Northern No-Return Spring Revolution Strike Column organized a public demonstration in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, calling for the implementation of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Myanmar. The movement aimed to oppose the military dictatorship and protect workers’ rights. The demonstration was conducted under the banner ‘ILO Implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025.’
Article 33 of the ILO Constitution provides mechanisms for taking action against member states that seriously violate workers’ rights. The protesters emphasized that since the military coup, there have been severe violations of workers’ rights and freedom of association in Myanmar, which prompted this public action. Participants from the strike column explained that the demonstration was necessary to draw attention to the deteriorating labor conditions under military rule.
The public movement saw participation from local residents, youth, and workers who peacefully demonstrated while carrying anti-dictatorship signboards and posters. The strike column marched through city streets, using loudspeakers to voice their demands for opposing the military dictatorship and protecting workers’ rights. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing struggle of Myanmar’s workers and civilians against the military council’s oppressive policies and their call for international action through the implementation of ILO Article 33.
