
More than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as the military council conducts violent operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, according to the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group. The military forces, which departed from Yesagyo town on March 2 with approximately 80 troops, launched heavy artillery attacks and raided Myeisone village. On the same day, drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses and seven motorcycles in Sinchaeya village.
The military forces burned down Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their troops with an additional 60 personnel, conducted a third arson attack on March 4. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned down civilian homes, followed by the burning of Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages including Myeisone, Sinchaeya, Malakachan, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minla, Panyo, and Nyaungkaya in Myaung Township, continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
The military council’s brutal actions have resulted in the deaths of several elderly civilians. In Myeisone village, U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old) were arrested and killed, some burned to death, according to the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. As the military council continues its attempts to advance into Myaung Township, local residents remain fearful and continue to flee to safer areas. The ongoing military operations have created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with thousands of civilians displaced and seeking safety from the violence and destruction of their homes and communities.
