Over 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as the military council conducts violent operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, according to the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Team. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo began operations by firing heavy weapons and raiding Myeisone village. On the same day, drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses and seven motorcycles in Sinchiyar village.
The military council forces burned down Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their troops with 60 more soldiers, conducted a third arson attack on March 4. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned down civilian homes, followed by the burning of Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages including Myeisone, Sinchiyar, Malakakyin, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minhla, Pannyoe, and Nyaungkayar in Myaung Township, continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
The military council’s brutal actions have resulted in the deaths of several elderly civilians in Myeisone village, including U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), who were either arrested and killed or burned to death, according to the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. As the military council continues its attempts to advance into Myaung Township, local residents remain fearful and continue to flee to safer areas. The situation remains tense as military operations persist in the region, causing ongoing displacement and humanitarian concerns for the affected civilian population.
