Multiple villages in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, have suffered extensive damage due to continuous aerial bombardment by the military council forces. On March 7 at approximately 2:00 PM, military council forces conducted an airstrike using a fighter jet on Kywettin village in the Thitpoke Taung area, resulting in the destruction of more than 35 houses. While local residents had managed to evacuate before the attack, the exact extent of casualties remains unclear due to disrupted communication systems in the area, according to local sources.
Prior to this incident, on March 6, the military council forces conducted two separate aerial attacks on U Kyin village during both midday and evening hours, completely destroying more than 170 houses. Due to ongoing conflicts in the region over the past weeks, most residents had already fled their homes. Local sources confirmed that entire villages have been burned to the ground as a result of the military council’s aerial bombardments. The military council forces also targeted Wa village in Sittwe Township with drone strikes on March 6, destroying 35 houses.
Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships. The military council forces have been deliberately targeting civilian residential areas in their attacks. As a result of these aerial assaults by the military council, more than 200 houses have now been destroyed in U Kyin and Kywettin villages within Kyaukphyu Township. The systematic targeting of civilian areas demonstrates a pattern of deliberate attacks on non-military targets by the military council forces, causing widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and forcing residents to flee their homes amid escalating conflict in the region.
