More than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as military council forces conducting operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region continue to kill civilians and burn villages, according to officials from the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group. On March 2, approximately 80 military council troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive with heavy weapons on Myeisone village while conducting drone strikes that destroyed two houses and seven motorcycles in Sinchiyar village.
The military forces burned Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing with 60 more troops, burned it again for a third time on March 4. On March 5, they raided Zarapni village and burned civilian homes, then proceeded to burn Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages including Myeisone, Sinchiyar, Malakachan, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaunggyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu villages in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minla, Pannyoe and Nyaungkayar villages in Myaung Township – totaling over 10,000 people – remain displaced and seeking refuge in safer areas.
During their raid on Myeisone village, military council forces arrested and killed five elderly civilians: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60), U Thanmani (88), Daw Than Pyay (60) and Daw Hla Ngwe (86), according to a representative from the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. The military forces continue attempting to advance into Myaung Township, forcing local residents to remain displaced from their homes. The ongoing violence and destruction has created a humanitarian crisis in the region as thousands of civilians flee military attacks targeting their communities.
