More than 10,000 civilians have been forced to flee their homes as military forces conduct operations along the border of Yesagyo Township in Magway Region and Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, carrying out killings and systematic burning of villages, according to the Myaung Township People’s Defense and Security Group. On March 2, approximately 80 military troops from Yesagyo launched an offensive, using heavy artillery to enter Myeisone village. On the same day, drone strikes resulted in the destruction of two houses in Sinchiyar village and the burning of about seven motorcycles.
The military forces burned Myeisone village for a second time on March 3, and after reinforcing their numbers with 60 more troops, conducted a third burning operation on March 4. On March 5, they entered Zarapni village and burned civilian homes, followed by the burning of Thakhaunglay village on March 7. Currently, residents from fourteen villages are displaced, including Myeisone, Sinchiyar, Malakakhan, Shwelan, Ywartha, Thakhaungkyi, Zarapni, Thakhaunglay, and Phyonbu villages in Yesagyo Township, as well as Myitsone, Ngarhtoe, Minla, Panyo, and Nyaungkayar villages in Myaung Township. These civilians continue to seek refuge in safer locations.
During their offensive in Myeisone village, military forces committed atrocities against elderly civilians, including the arrest and killing of U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), some of whom were burned to death, according to the Yesagyo Township Information Committee. The military forces are currently attempting to advance further into Myaung Township, causing continued fear among local residents who are still fleeing to safety. The situation remains critical as military operations continue in the area, forcing civilians to abandon their homes and seek shelter in safer locations.
