A military airstrike on Nat Saung village in Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, has resulted in the deaths of six civilians, including a pregnant woman and two children, according to a representative from the Thaung Tha Township People’s Defense Force. The attack occurred around 10:30 PM on March 4th, when the military conducted an aerial bombardment of the village despite there being no active fighting in the area. The airstrike destroyed approximately 30 civilian homes and left three other civilians with severe injuries.
The military is believed to have used incendiary bombs in the attack, as the bodies of the deceased were completely incinerated, leaving only ashes and bone fragments behind. Local sources confirmed that there was no ground assault on Nat Saung village, with the military choosing to target civilian areas from the air. The attack has been characterized as a deliberate targeting of innocent civilians, as there were no military engagements or resistance activities in the area at the time of the bombing.
Due to the increasing frequency of military airstrikes, the Thaung Tha Township People’s Defense Force has advised local residents to construct bomb shelters at their homes and remain vigilant against aerial threats. The ongoing military air campaigns continue to result in civilian casualties and widespread destruction of residential areas, with this latest attack representing another instance of the military’s use of disproportionate force against civilian populations. The incident has further highlighted the urgent need for civilian protection measures in the face of continued aerial bombardments by military forces.
