On March 4, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, where he presented a biography of U Aung Zeya while citing a Buddhist prophecy about future alliance. The book in question was written in 1838 by Pali scholar U Saw, who held the title of Maha Bhisaka Pandita.
Min Aung Hlaing explained that according to the prophecy contained in the book, the Buddha had foretold that after 2000 years of Buddhist era, during the time of evil kings, among the twelve shepherds would be Russians. The prophecy stated that the Russian king would master various weapons and become the lord of weapons. Furthermore, this Russian weapons master would become a great ally to the Myanmar kings of Aparanta country.
Min Aung Hlaing pointed out that currently, more than 2500 years have passed since the Buddha’s time, and Vladimir Putin has been leading Russia for over 20 years. He emphasized that Russia has become a top military power, suggesting that the Buddha’s prophecy has come true. He also stressed that Russia is a crucial and trustworthy nation for Myanmar, expressing full support for Russia’s global peace initiatives.
During the meeting, Putin offered assistance in constructing small nuclear reactors for electricity generation in Myanmar, expressed support for the military council regarding internal affairs, and discussed plans to enhance bilateral trade, economic, and multi-sector cooperation between Russia and Myanmar. Min Aung Hlaing appeared notably enthusiastic while presenting U Aung Zeya’s biography to Putin, expressing great satisfaction with the meeting and its outcomes.
