The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)-led allied forces have been conducting attacks on the Military Council’s Infantry Battalion 31 Pulotu camp in Hlaingbwe Township, Karen State along the Thai-Myanmar border since February 26. According to border sources and Thai media reports, approximately 550 local civilians have fled to Thailand due to the ongoing fighting. The battles are taking place about 800 meters from the Thai-Myanmar border line.
The Military Council forces are conducting airstrikes while KNLA forces are carrying out counter-attacks using drones. On March 2 at 1:50 PM, the Military Council conducted an airstrike. Border sources confirm that KNLA-led revolutionary forces have surrounded the Military Council’s camp and are continuing their offensive operations. The fighting began on the evening of February 26 when KNLA forces initiated drone attacks on the Military Council camp, and clashes have continued daily since then.
Thai authorities have accommodated the fleeing civilians in two separate locations and are providing necessary assistance. The Military Council’s airstrikes have caused fear and panic among local residents, forcing them to flee to safety. The KNLA-led forces continue to maintain pressure on the Military Council position while civilian casualties and displacement remain a serious concern as the fighting enters its fifth consecutive day. The proximity of the fighting to the Thai border has raised concerns about the potential for escalation in the border region.
