The military council has conducted aerial bombardments on Nang Cho Township in northern Shan State, controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, held by the Arakan Army (AA), according to confirmed sources. On February 28, the military council carried out two separate airstrikes on Shwe Myintho village in Nang Cho Township, resulting in injuries to a nun and causing destruction to five houses and a monastery. The attacks occurred during the afternoon hours, demonstrating the military’s continued use of airpower against civilian areas.
Earlier, on February 20, another airstrike on Lawkphan village in Nang Cho Township had resulted in the death of one civilian and left four others injured, including a child. The violence escalated further when on March 1, in the early morning hours, the military council launched an aerial attack on the former Kyeekanpyin military outpost in Maungdaw Township, now under AA control. During this attack, the military aircraft dropped two 500-pound bombs on and around the former outpost area. Local sources, including APM and residents, have reported the incidents, though the full extent of casualties and damage remains unclear due to communication difficulties in the region.
The military council has significantly increased its air operations against territories controlled by revolutionary forces, according to resistance sources. These intensified aerial campaigns, particularly in northern Shan State and Rakhine State, have resulted in frequent civilian casualties and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure. Aid workers assisting internally displaced persons from the Maungdaw region have reported difficulties in assessing the full extent of damage and casualties due to severely disrupted communication systems in the area. The ongoing attacks represent a concerning pattern of the military council’s use of disproportionate force against civilian populations in areas under the control of ethnic armed organizations and resistance forces.
