The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has reported that military council airstrikes in Ye and Kyaukkyi Townships within KNU-controlled territory have resulted in one civilian death and eleven injuries, including three Buddhist monks, while causing extensive damage to monasteries and residential homes. On February 26, in the afternoon, the military council conducted an airstrike using a Yak-130 aircraft on Khun Nawa (Maw Htee) village in Win Ye Township (Ye Township), killing a 42-year-old woman and injuring six civilians, including a 4-year-old child.
On the same day, the military council’s Yak-130 aircraft also targeted a monastery in Phan Aung (Toe Khaw Phu) village in Win Ye Township. This attack resulted in injuries to the resident abbot, one monk, and one novice, as well as five civilians, including a 5-year-old girl. On February 27, at 4:10 PM, the military council conducted a drone strike on Phayathalwin village in Kyaukkyi Township, causing damage to a residential home. Earlier, on February 26 at 1:00 PM, another drone attack damaged two schools, a water tower, an assembly hall, and a storage building in Phayathalwin village.
Additionally, on February 24 at 6:40 PM, the military council fired 120mm artillery shells, resulting in damage to another residential home. The KNU has reported that the military council continues to conduct daily attacks using heavy weapons and drones on villages in Mu, Lay Do, and Saw Htee Townships within KNU-administered territory. The statement emphasizes that the military council is deliberately targeting innocent civilians and treating them inhumanely. These ongoing attacks demonstrate the military council’s continued use of violence against civilian populations in areas under KNU administration, causing significant casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure including religious buildings and homes.
